Elevator speech vs blogging?  For me, blogging wins hands down!

I’ve managed company departments and divisions for 17 years.  I’ve consulting with corporations and entrepreneurs of growing enterprises for nearly 10 years.  Within that time, I have written business plans for my own companies, facilitated strategic plans for clients, and judged entrepreneurial business plans since the inception of the Governor’s Business Plan Contest.  In all cases, I believe strongly in the shared discovery of leadership vision, purpose and clarity.

The Origin

A bit over a year ago I had a book referred to me that caught my eye and repulsed me - all at the same time.  I am fortunate to have a network of colleagues who enjoy reading the next best business book, then opening the gates for the rest of us.

Jim Gray, a long-time friend and colleague asked me if I had ever read the book, Leadership Brand:  Developing Customer Focused Leaders to Drive Performance and Build Lasting Value, written and released by Dave Ulrich and Norm Smallwood.  I hadn’t, no surprise, given the number of leadership books published each year.

 

Entrepreneurial Spirit & Commitment: Myths & Realities

I’ve worked with enough business owners and executives throughout the years to know if their employees weren’t pulling their weight, they would hear about it – right then and there. Realizing that, why don’t we hold ourselves accountable to that same standard?

Lately, I’ve heard far too many doom and gloom stories from all walks of life – including business owners – they seem to have lost their passion and spirit. Instead, they cling to the hope of riding out the economic downturn. I’m here to tell you to take a bit of your own medicine and move on.
